"The Best Tamales are Stuffed With Love, and The Best People Are Stuffed with Her Tamales"

About Alicia Tamales Los Mayas

In August of 2010, Alicia Villanueva came to La Cocina with a dream: to start her own tamale cart, as a means to spread her own Mexican traditions and customs. For Alicia, the best tamales are stuffed with love, and the best people are stuffed with her tamales. She’s been making delicious tamales for her family and friends for years, and finally decided that it was time to let the rest of the world in on her amazing food. Tamales los Mayas made its debut at the 2010 San Francisco Street Food Festival and Alicia’s spent the months since perfecting her business. Luckily for San Francisco tamale enthusiasts, Alicia’s Tamales los Mayas launched at Justin Herman Plaza in October 2011, where it’s now stationed five days a week.

About Alicia Villanueva

Alicia Villanueva was born in the city of Mazatlan, located in the northeastern part of the Mexican Republic and in the State of Sinaloa. Since 2001, Alicia Villanueva has been working very hard for her dream. When she arrived in this beautiful and blessed country, she was very impressed to find so many cultures from all over the world. She thought to bring her culture to others through her cuisine TAMALES! She loves to cook and her recipes are from her Grandmom and mom. Alicia’s dreams came true when she was accepted by LA COCINA. She says sometimes she has to pinch herself to realize it’s true. LA COCINA is the most important part of her business. Now she feels the sensation of freedom to grow her business and LA COCINA gives her the opportunity to play in the food business. Alicia is very happy to know the future of her kids is secure and that they will have a much better life than she had. Alicia says “When I am cooking in LA COCINA she always has this sentence in her mind EL PERFECTO SABOR ES COCINAR CON AMOR.”

Alicia says that eating tamales is very lovely because they are so very versatile. You can eat them in the morning for a delicious breakfast with Atole or Champurrado or for lunch with yummy agua fresca (any kind of season fruit) or as a very rica deliciosa gourmet dinner with wine or una cerveza bien fria. Her tamales can be served with avocado salsa, green salsa or red jalapeno salsa. Alicia"s slogan is “MY TAMALES ARE STUFF WITH LOVE AND THE BEST PEOPLE ARE STUFFED WITH MY TAMALES.”
